Tuesday night is celebrating the move to their new office. It will be just a day before JavaZone taking place in Oslo. As you might know ForgeRock is the new place for many Sun s/w people. Tuesday night there will be also James Gosling - register for a webcast here.

Tomorrow starts the OpenOffice.org annual conference - this time in Budapest.

LATA has also applied to host the conference in Riga last two years although it did not happen yet:(

As you may notice there have been some silence for a while in OpenSolaris.org but actually that was not the case. Behind the scenes there are activities but only now it went public with the announcement of Illumos Project. Will be very interesting to follow and as a big fan of OpenSolaris I wish all the success!

now in Oracle

After a while I'm back to the blog.
There have been some changes for me and now I am based in Oracle and I am responsible for hardware line of business in all three Baltic states. As you may know hardware line of business in Oracle simply means all Sun Microsystems heritage what is now in Oracle's portfolio.
From now on I will post my blogs in English as I hope there will be more readers also in Estonia and Lithuania, and I'm sure it will be much more convenient than to use Google Translate from Latvian.
Lets keep in touch and see how this all goes!

Interesants sociālais pētījums - Britu spēļu tirgotājs GameStation 1.aprīlī online datorspēļu pirkšanas licencē iekļāva punktu par pircēja dvēseles bezierunu nodošanu GameStation īpašumā. Kā jau gaidāms, izrādījās, ka lielais vairākums nelasa licences tekstu (tie, ar tiem mazītiņajiem burtiņiem uz vairākām lapaspusēm). Galu galā 7500 cilvēku bija brīvprātīgi pārdevuši savas dvēseles, kas bija apmēram 88% no visiem tās dienas pircējiem. Kas vēl smieklīgi, - ja tomēr cilvēks izlasīja tekstu un nospieda opciju "atteikties atdot dvēseli", tad viņš saņēma 5GBP vaučeri par vērīgumu!
Varam secināt, ka lielajā vairumā gadījumu tas arī ir ļoti tuvu patiesībai - tikai katrs desmitais lasa tos "License Agreement", taču vajadzētu gan izlasīt!
